Venom (2018)

Venom (2018) is an American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name. This film marks the first installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, it features a screenplay written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, along with Kelly Marcel. While on a mission to find new habitable worlds, a probe owned by bio-engineering corporation Life Foundation discovers a comet covered in symbiotic lifeforms. The probe brings back four samples to Earth but one escapes, causing the ship to crash in Malaysia. The Life Foundation retrieves the remaining three and transports them to their research facility in San Francisco. It is there that they learn the symbiotes cannot survive without oxygen-breathing hosts. These hosts often fatally reject the symbiosis. Investigative journalist Eddie Brock discovers this information after reading a classified document belonging to his fiancée Anne Weying, who is also an attorney representing the Life Foundation against a lawsuit.

After confronting Life Foundation CEO Carlton Drake regarding the trials, both Eddie and Anne find themselves unemployed. In the aftermath, Anne decides to end things with Eddie. As time passes, Drake’s symbiosis experiments are making progress, despite one of his symbiotes meeting an untimely demise due to negligence. Dora Skirth, a scientist working for Drake, reaches out to Eddie for assistance in exposing his unethical methods. With her help, Eddie breaks into the research facility in search of evidence and discovers that Maria, a homeless woman he knows, is one of the test subjects. He attempts to save Maria but unknowingly becomes a host for the symbiote inhabiting her body, resulting in her death. Fleeing from the facility with strange symptoms arising, Eddie turns to Anne for assistance and her new boyfriend Dr. Dan Lewis soon discovers the presence of the symbiote during an examination.
