W. (2008) is an American biographical comedy-drama film that tells the story of George W. Bush, directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stanley Weiser. In 1966, George endures an initiation into Delta Kappa Epsilon at Yale University with his fellow students. Despite having a famous political family, he has no interest in their legacy. However, after getting arrested for causing a scene at a football game in New Jersey, his father offers to help him one last time. After graduating from Yale, George takes a short-lived job at an oil patch in Texas before revealing his true dream of working in professional baseball to his father during a heart-to-heart chat. With his father’s assistance, he is accepted into Harvard Business School. But after a wild night of drinking, George ends up crashing his car on the family estate and even challenges his father to a fight until his younger brother Jeb intervenes.

In 1977, Bush announces his candidacy for Congress in Texas’s 19th district. At a barbecue, he meets his future wife, Laura Lane Welch. During a debate, his Democratic opponent, Kent Hance, criticizes him for not being a true Texan and misusing campaign funds to throw an alcohol-fueled party for underage Texas Tech University students. Despite performing poorly in the debate and ultimately losing the election, Bush receives the most votes ever for a Republican candidate in the state. In 1986, he experiences a religious conversion and quits drinking while also reconciling with his father. As a result of this newfound faith, he is invited to assist with his father’s 1988 presidential campaign, although he suspects he was only asked due to Jeb’s unavailability.
