Watership Down (2018) is a CGI-animated series directed by Noam Murro and based on the 1972 novel by Richard Adams, adapted by Tom Bidwell. The story takes place in the serene countryside of southern England and follows a group of rabbits on their escape from man’s intrusion and the imminent destruction of their home. Led by two brave brothers, they travel from Sandleford Warren through treacherous obstacles and foes, in pursuit of a promised land and a better society. One rabbit, Fiver, has a vision of impending disaster for their home warren, prompting his brother Hazel to rally others to join them. Despite encountering unexpected dangers along the way, they remain determined to reach their destination: Watership Down.
In July 2014, it was announced that a new animated serial based on the 1972 novel and 1978 film Watership Down would be airing on BBC. Later in April 2016, it was revealed that BBC and Netflix would co-produce the series, consisting of four one-hour episodes, with a budget of £20 million. The remaining members of the voice cast were announced in November 2018. While originally slated for release on 25 December 2018, Watership Down premiered on BBC One in the UK on 22 December and internationally on Netflix on 23 December.
