Where the Day Takes You (1992)
Where the Day Takes You (1992), an American drama film directed by Marc Rocco, follows a group of young people who create their own supportive family on the streets of Los Angeles. King, their leader, has been living on the streets for many years and recently returned from serving a two-month prison sentence for assault. Upon his release, he notices that the group (including himself, Greg, Little J, Crasher, and Brenda) has fallen apart. King seeks revenge on Tommy Ray for killing his girlfriend and enlists the help of Heather, a 17-year-old from Chicago. One night while stealing car stereos, Greg and Little J get into a fight and Greg turns to his drug dealer Ted and Ted’s girlfriend Vikki for refuge. However, he is turned away due to not having any money. Desperate for cash, Greg goes home where his father and stepmother have him arrested for grand theft.
While incarcerated, Greg opens up about his struggle with drug addiction, leading to a social worker enrolling him in a rehabilitation program and being granted parole. In the meantime, Tommy Ray tracks down King’s whereabouts after threatening and assaulting his friend Manny who has no legs. He proceeds to violently attack King and almost fatally stabs him before Little J intervenes and kills Tommy Ray. King, Heather, and Little J manage to escape, but Crasher is apprehended by the authorities. Upon discussing their options, King suggests that Heather return home to Chicago, but she refuses to leave without him. After a day of panhandling for money, they end up at a hotel where they spend the night engaging in intimate activities. During their time together, Heather confesses that she left her house due to conflict with her brother.
