White Hunter Black Heart (1990)
White Hunter Black Heart (1990), an American adventure drama film, was brought to life by the talents of Clint Eastwood, who produced, directed, and starred in the movie. Based on Peter Viertel’s novel of the same name from 1953, it follows the story of Pete Verrill, as he is invited by his friend John Wilson to rewrite the script for Wilson’s latest project: a film known as The African Trader. Despite concerns about costliness, Wilson successfully persuades producer Paul Landers to shoot the entire film on location in Africa. For Wilson, this decision has nothing to do with the film itself; rather, it fulfills his lifelong dream of embarking on an African safari.
To prepare for this adventure, he even purchases a set of finely crafted hunting rifles and charges them to the studio. After arriving in Entebbe, Wilson and Verrill spend several days at a luxurious hotel while finalizing the script and organizing their safari expedition. Verrill and Wilson’s relationship grows as they defend each other against prejudice at a hotel. They often disagree over changes to the script, including Wilson’s proposed ending where all main characters die on-screen. Eventually, Wilson hires a pilot to take them to a hunting camp where they bond with safari guide Zibelinsky and his African tracker Kivu.
