White Noise (2005) is a supernatural horror thriller film directed by Geoffrey Sax. Jonathan Rivers, an architect, is married to his wife Anna, a best-selling author. Together, they have a young son from Jonathan’s previous marriage and Anna is pregnant with their second child. One night, Anna mysteriously disappears and is missing for five weeks. During this time, Jonathan is approached by Raymond Price, who has recently lost his son. Raymond shares that he has been receiving messages from his deceased son through electronic voice phenomena (EVP). He also claims to have recordings of Anna’s voice, suggesting she may be dead. Initially hesitant and angry at the suggestion, Jonathan later discovers the tragic truth of his wife’s accidental drowning through news reports.
Jonathan repeatedly encounters what he believes to be Anna’s attempts at communication. Desperate, he turns to Raymond for guidance on EVP. During their meeting, Jonathan meets Sarah Tate, who is also seeking Raymond’s help after losing her fiancé. Jonathan records a voice that he believes belongs to his wife and becomes fixated on contacting her himself. However, he soon hears other voices—angry, aggressive, vulgar, and threatening. Raymond is found dead under mysterious circumstances. As they go through Raymond’s EVP logs together, Jonathan and Sarah seek answers about the phenomenon. A psychic advises Jonathan about the potential dangers of EVP, warning him that despite precautions against negative entities, there are no guarantees.
