The Road to Corinth (1967)
The French-Italian Eurospy film, The Road to Corinth (1967), directed by Claude Chabrol, follows the story of Robert Ford and his wife, Shanny. Set during the Cold War in Greece, NATO radar and missile systems are encountering mysterious issues due to small breakdowns in electronic black boxes. Tragically, Robert is murdered before he can solve the problem. Despite opposition from Mr. Sharps, head of the secret service, Shanny takes on the investigation herself. Knowing Robert and Shanny’s friendship well, intelligence agent Dex is assigned to monitor her actions by Mr. Sharps. Eventually, out of love for Shanny, Dex agrees to help her with her mission.
Dex and Shanny uncover Khalidès as the culprit through the discovery of black boxes hidden within his statue replicas, which he produces and sells. Despite a police raid yielding no results, Khalidès has Shanny abducted and taken to an ancient temple atop a mountain by his henchmen. Ready to push her off a cliff while tied to a cart, he surprises her with a marriage proposal. As he unties her, Dex arrives and shoots Khalidès before he falls off the cliff himself. Choosing to leave behind his job, Dex joins Shanny for their journey back home.
