Winning (1969) is an American Panavision film that follows the story of professional race car driver Frank Capua. After meeting divorcee Elora, the two quickly marry following a whirlwind romance. Elora’s teenage son Charley, from her previous marriage, forms a close bond with Frank and even helps him prepare for his races. However, Frank’s intense focus on his career causes strain on their relationship and leads to Elora having an affair with Frank’s rival Luther Erding. Upon discovering them together, a furious Frank storms out and the couple separates. Despite this, Frank maintains a relationship with Charley and his bitterness only drives him to become a more aggressive driver on the track.

During the Indianapolis 500, Elora and Charley are spectators as Frank races with determination and comes out victorious. Later on, Frank makes an appearance at a celebratory gathering, but remains indifferent to the advances of attractive women who throw themselves at him. He eventually takes his leave from the party. Despite this, Luther seeks out Frank and offers an apology for his affair, only to be met with a punch from Frank. In another scene, Frank pays a visit to Elora and expresses his desire to start over. Elora’s response is uncertain. The movie concludes with a freeze-frame of the two gazing uncertainly at each other.
