World War Z (2013) is a gripping American film directed by Marc Forster. It is based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Max Brooks and was written by Carnahan and J. Michael Straczynski. The story follows Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator, as he navigates through a world overrun by zombies with his wife Karin and two daughters, Rachel and Connie. One particular moment that stands out to Gerry during this chaos is how quickly someone can turn into an infected zombie after being bitten – only 12 seconds. In their desperate attempt to survive, the family makes their way to Newark where they find refuge with a generous family who has a young son named Tommy. Thankfully, they are rescued by a helicopter arranged by Thierry Umutoni, the UN Deputy Secretary-General. However, they soon realize that Tommy’s parents have also been bitten and make the tough decision to bring him along for their escape.
The group is brought to a US Navy vessel in the Atlantic Ocean, where a team of diligent scientists and military personnel are studying the outbreak. One member is Andrew Fassbach, a virologist who firmly believes finding the origin of the plague is crucial for developing a vaccine. Despite facing possible eviction from the vessel, Gerry agrees to assist Fassbach out of concern for his family’s safety. They, along with a Navy SEAL escort, then fly to Camp Humphreys in South Korea. There, they come under attack upon receiving the first report of zombies at this location. In the chaos, Fassbach accidentally shoots himself with his own gun due to panic. The team is saved by US soldiers stationed at the camp, and Gerry discovers that it was the doctor at the base who brought in the infection.
