X (2022)

X (2022) is a slasher flick from America, written, directed, produced and edited by Ti West. The lead role of Mia Goth is split between two characters: Maxine, a young lady, and Pearl, an older woman. In 1979, cops show up at a secluded farm in rural Texas and come across multiple corpses wrapped up in bags. When they enter the house, they discover something shocking down in the basement. Just one day before this gruesome finding, aspiring adult film star Maxine sets off on a road trip with her boyfriend Wayne, along with actors Bobby-Lynne and Jackson, director RJ and his partner Lorraine. The goal? To shoot an x-rated movie. Romance develops between Bobby-Lynne and Jackson while RJ strives to make the film appear more sophisticated than it is. Meanwhile, Lorraine helps with equipment and lighting but remains unimpressed with their artistic efforts.

The group reaches a farm owned by Howard and Pearl, an elderly couple who have a guesthouse where the film will be shot. Howard’s temperamental behavior towards the group is excused by Wayne, who neglected to inform him of their intentions. While the crew captures a sex scene between Bobby-Lynne and Jackson, Maxine explores the property and comes across a vast pond. Unbeknownst to her, Pearl watches from the trees while she takes a swim. During this time, Maxine also catches the attention of a large alligator, which follows her as she exits the water. Upon returning to the guest house, Pearl invites Maxine inside the farmhouse, where she expresses admiration for Maxine’s youthful appearance and makes an unwanted sexual advance towards her. Meanwhile, Howard arrives back at home as Maxine sneaks out.
