Year of the Comet (1992)
The film Year of the Comet (1992), directed by Peter Yates, follows the adventures of Margaret Harwood. She is the daughter of a renowned wine merchant, Sir Mason Harwood. While on a quest to find a rare vintage wine from 1811 with Napoleon’s seal, Margaret discovers a magnum of it. Sir Mason quickly offers it to his top customer, T.T. Kelleher. In turn, Kelleher sends his friend, Oliver Plexico, to retrieve it. However, several other interested parties also have their eyes on the valuable bottle: a Greek billionaire who has acquired it through Margaret’s dishonest brother; an unscrupulous French scientist who believes it holds the key to a youth-reviving formula that he will do anything to obtain; and a ruthless thug who wants to sell it for his own profit.
As the parties race across Europe, the bottle is passed from hand to hand multiple times, from the Scottish Highlands to Èze. Eventually, the criminals are defeated and Margaret and Oliver’s love blossoms. In a private auction held by Sir Mason, both ‘owners’ of the bottle are outbid by Oliver, who is revealed to be both a wealthy adventurer and scientist. Despite warnings against it, Oliver chooses to uncork the $5 million bottle and generously shares its high-quality wine.
