Youngblood (1986)

In the American sports drama film Youngblood (1986), directed, co-produced, and co-written by Peter Markle, a 17-year-old farmhand from rural New York named Dean Youngblood has aspirations of playing in the National Hockey League. His father initially disapproves when Dean shares his dreams, but Dean’s brother Kelly convinces their father to change his mind. Dean travels to Canada to try out for the Hamilton Mustangs, showcasing his offensive skills but showing a lack of physical toughness. As he competes for a spot on the team, he becomes known as ‘Pretty Boy’ due to his rivalry with another hockey player, Carl Racki. In an attempt to prove himself and secure a spot on the team, Racki challenges him to a fight and easily defeats him.
Despite being injured by a rival team, Dean is chosen for the Mustangs by their head coach, a former NHL All-Star. While playing for the team, Dean also catches the attention of Jessie, the coach’s daughter. After his teammate Derek gets hurt on purpose by Racki, Dean goes back home. Upon receiving encouragement from his brother and receiving both on and off-ice fighting lessons from his father, Dean returns to the team with determination to face Racki in the final game of the Memorial Cup playoffs. In an intense showdown, Dean scores a winning penalty shot goal with only 3 seconds remaining. As the game comes to a close, he triumphantly defeats Racki in a fight and is carried off the ice by his teammates.
