Allegiant (2016) is the third and final film in The Divergent Series, directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Noah Oppenheim. In this American dystopian science fiction action film, Evelyn takes charge of Chicago and puts Jeanine’s followers on trial for their actions. Johanna disagrees with this approach and is joined by many new Allegiants. Tris, Four, Caleb, Tori, Christina, and Peter escape over the wall while being pursued by Edgar and Factionless guards. Tragically, Tori is killed in the process. The group eventually finds refuge in a hidden city called the Bureau of Genetic Welfare where they learn about society’s problems caused by gene modifications leading to the Purity Wars. The Bureau has been conducting experiments in an attempt to restore a naturally pure genome; Tris becomes the first to achieve this desired outcome.
Caleb and Peter remotely monitor Chicago while Christina and Four train under Nita in the military. Matthew takes Tris to David, the leader of the Bureau, who provides her with a device to access her mother’s memories. She discovers that her mother was rescued from the wastelands as a child and then willingly joined the Chicago experiment. With Caleb’s warning about conflict between Allegiants and Factionless in Chicago, Tris agrees to help David if he seeks council intervention. However, during a mission to rescue a village in the wastelands, Four realizes that the Bureau is capturing children and erasing their memories. He tries to tell Tris about this, but David interrupts them.
