Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), a 2005 action thriller directed by Jean-François Richet and starring Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne, follows Detroit Police Department Sergeant Jake Roenick in the aftermath of a failed sting operation. Struggling with substance abuse, he clings to his mundane position as desk sergeant at Precinct 13, which is set to close down. On New Year’s Eve, Roenick, along with officer Jasper O’Shea and secretary Iris Ferry, are left to cover the shift. When psychiatrist Alexandra Sabian arrives to assess Roenick’s fitness for duty, things take an unexpected turn. The transfer of notorious crime boss Marion Bishop and three other criminals – Beck, Anna, and Smiley – is diverted to Precinct 13 due to a snowstorm.
Ill-prepared for the situation, Roenick must quickly find a way to secure the prisoners in cells. Masked gunmen disable the precinct’s communication and power systems, launching a fatal assault. Amid the chaos, Roenick takes down one of the attackers and discovers he is an undercover cop working for Captain Marcus Duvall of Precinct 21. As it turns out, Bishop’s former business partners, Duvall and his team, are corrupt and seek to eliminate him to safeguard their dirty dealings. The precinct staff and the incarcerated criminals form an unlikely alliance in the face of overwhelming odds. With no other choice, Roenick frees the inmates and arms them to help defend the station. Together, they fend off multiple subsequent attacks until both sides reach a standstill.
