Bad Country (2014)
Bad Country (2014) is an American crime drama film based on a true story. Set in 1983 in the South Louisiana bayou country, Lt. Bud Case from the Baton Rouge PD makes a breakthrough by arresting Jesse Weiland, known for his involvement in various criminal activities and a previous rap sheet. This comes after an undercover operation targeting a precious gems fencing operation run by Weiland. Despite current charges of possible weapons and burglary charges against him which could send him to prison for decades, Case suspects there may be more to Weiland’s involvement due to his calm demeanor. In other words, he believes Weiland has powerful connections that could get him off the hook. As it turns out, Weiland’s main role in the underworld is that of a contract killer. This means he likely holds information that could implicate major players, something Case is determined to unravel.
Facing potential life in prison with prior offenses and a parole violation, Weiland makes the difficult decision to accept Case’s offer for help. His motivation largely stems from wanting to protect his wife Lynn and their newborn son Tommy. As part of the agreement, Lynn and Tommy will go into hiding, pretending that she has left due to marital problems. However, as they dive deeper into the mission of taking down Lutin Adams’ crime ring, concerns arise about being discovered by Adams and facing serious danger. On Case’s end, he also faces challenges as he clashes with Martin Fitch, the attorney assigned to the case by the Washington Attorney General’s office. Case finds Fitch to be inexperienced and pompous.
