Badla (2019)
Badla (2019) is a Hindi mystery thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh, following the story of Naina Sethi, a successful businesswoman in London with a seemingly perfect life. However, when her secret lover, Arjun, is found dead and she is arrested for his murder, her world is turned upside down. Her lawyer, Jimmy Punjabi, enlists the help of defence attorney Badal Gupta to prove her innocence. Together, they uncover that Naina and Arjun were being blackmailed for their affair and on the night of the murder, Naina was attacked and woke up to find Arjun dead with the money meant for the blackmailer. Despite being out on bail, the police have found no evidence to support her version of events or any sign of a break-in.
Badal confronts Naina about her dishonesty and raises concerns about a missing young man near the hotel. After further questioning, Naina discloses that she and Arjun had visited a cabin in the woods a few months back. On their way back, they were involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of the driver, a young boy named Sunny. Despite Arjun’s pleas to keep it from the authorities, Naina decided to dispose of any evidence of their involvement. This included putting Sunny’s body in the trunk of Arjun’s car, which she then dumped into a nearby swamp. Meanwhile, while waiting for Naina, Arjun was invited by Rani and Nirmal, a local couple, to their house where he made an alarming discovery – they were Sunny’s parents. As Rani tried to contact her son’s phone, it unexpectedly rang from Arjun’s pocket (which he had forgotten to get rid of), raising suspicion.
