Blood Father (2016)
Blood Father (2016), an English-language French film directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Peter Craig based on his novel of the same name, follows the story of Lydia. She visits a megastore to buy weapons for her boyfriend Jonah Pincerna and his fellow gang members. Once armed, they set out to kill a family living in their rented house who they believe stole their hidden money. During the attack, Jonah is shot in the neck and Lydia escapes, seeking help from her estranged father John Link. A former convict and recovering alcoholic, John agrees to take Lydia to his trailer where he discovers she is struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
Despite uneventful days, Lydia continuously receives death threats from the gang. One night, Jonah’s members arrive at John’s house and proceed to open fire and ram their SUV into the building when they are unable to force their way in. Luckily, Kirby, John’s neighbor and sponsor, steps in with the help of other residents and drives the attackers away. Fearing for Lydia’s safety if they turn her over to authorities, John decides to flee with her. During their escape, Lydia shares details about her life after leaving home and reveals that Jonah is a powerful member of a Mexican drug cartel. Seeking refuge at a motel, the pair discovers they are wanted for the deaths of previous tenants. Barely evading both the police and a hired sicario (assassin), John turns to his former mentor and friend Preacher for assistance. Preacher makes a living by collecting and selling war memorabilia and may be able to help them out of their dangerous situation.
