Bolt (2008)
Bolt (2008) is an American animated action adventure film, produced and released by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pictures. The main character, a White Swiss Shepherd puppy named Bolt, is adopted by a 7-year-old girl named Penny. They soon become the stars of a successful TV show bearing Bolt’s name, where they use his superpowers to fight crime and defeat the evil Dr. Calico who has taken Penny’s father hostage. To ensure a convincing performance from Bolt, the director designs the filming process so that Bolt believes everything happening on set is real, including his powers like invincibility, strength, and a powerful bark. As a result, Bolt can never leave the set or live a normal dog’s life, much to Penny’s disappointment. One day when a cliffhanger episode makes him think Penny has been captured, Bolt breaks out of his trailer in Hollywood yet ends up knocking himself unconscious and being shipped to New York City in a box filled with packing peanuts.
Upon reaching New York, Bolt is stunned to learn that his extraordinary abilities are of no use. He meets Mittens, a cynical stray cat who oversees a group of pigeons and their protection. Bolt suspects Mittens to be working for Calico and leashes her, compelling her to lead him back to his owner Penny. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, a less experienced White Swiss Shepherd is brought in to take over filming. Penny is heartbroken over Bolt’s disappearance but reluctantly agrees to pause the search so production can continue. Suddenly feeling famished for the first time, Bolt takes Mittens’ advice and puts on a charming act as a needy and adorable stray, scoring food for both of them at an RV park where they are joined by Rhino, an undaunted hamster and devoted fan of Bolt.
