Cars 3 (2017) is an American animated film by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. After competing in the World Grand Prix five years prior, Lightning McQueen, a seven-time Piston Cup champion, faces competition from rookie racer Jackson Storm. The new generation of racecars utilizes cutting-edge technology to enhance their performance, causing veterans to either retire or lose sponsorships as they are overshadowed by Storm’s success. In the final race at Los Angeles, Lightning struggles to keep up with Storm after both drivers make pit stops. Unfortunately, in his efforts to catch up, Lightning’s engine fails and he suffers a devastating crash. This marks the end of his worst season yet and allows Storm to secure the Piston Cup victory.
Four months later, Lightning’s crash is behind him and he is determined to continue racing. He contacts his sponsors, Rusty and Dusty Rust-eze, only to find out they have sold the company to a businesscar called Sterling. Under Sterling’s ownership, Lightning is assigned to train with Cruz Ramirez. However, adapting to modern training methods proves to be a challenge for him. An incident in the simulator leads Sterling to push for Lightning’s retirement. Despite this, Lightning remains confident in his ability and makes a deal with Sterling: if he wins the Florida 500, he can choose whether or not to keep racing; if he loses, he will retire immediately. Reluctantly, Sterling agrees. As they race in Fireball Beach and Thunder Hollow’s figure-8-style demolition derby, Lightning becomes increasingly frustrated with Cruz’s unorthodox methods and lack of experience in racing. In a fit of rage, he accidentally breaks her trophy.
