Copshop (2021)
Copshop (2021), an American action thriller directed by Joe Carnahan and written by Kurt McLeod and Carnahan, is based on a story by McLeod and Mark Williams. The film follows con artist and fixer Teddy Murretto as he evades capture in a stolen unmarked police car. However, his getaway vehicle breaks down near a Nevada casino. In the midst of a brawl outside the establishment, Murretto deceives rookie police officer Valerie Young by sucker-punching her and getting her to arrest him for protection from his pursuers. One of those pursuers, hitman Bob Viddick, resorts to the same tactic by drunkenly crashing into the abandoned police car that Murretto had left behind, prompting his own arrest alongside Murretto in a small-town jail.
Initially, Murretto and Viddick are placed in separate cells, foiling Viddick’s plan to assassinate him. However, Viddick has cunningly planted a small incendiary device at the station’s entrance. When it sets off and triggers the fire alarm, he seizes the opportunity amidst the chaos. Without hesitation, he viciously attacks a drunken cellmate and incapacitates a police sergeant before stealing his firearm. Just as he is about to carry out his deadly plot against Murretto, Young intervenes and escorts him back to his cell. With an unwavering determination to uncover the truth, Young finally manages to persuade Murretto to reveal his side of the story: being involved in illegal dealings with a notorious casino mob boss from Nevada and attempting to bribe state attorney general William Fenton.
