For the Birds (2000)
For the Birds (2000) is an American computer-animated short film from Pixar, written and directed by Ralph Eggleston. A small blue egg-shaped bird lands comfortably on a powerline, soon joined by another of its kind. The two begin to quarrel and are soon joined by 13 other birds just like them, all jostling for room. Suddenly, a large shoebill-like bird appears on a nearby power pole, interrupting the commotion with loud honks. The smaller birds mockingly mimic its appearance and sounds until the big bird attempts to join them, causing them to huddle together and whisper about it. Undeterred, the bigger bird sits between them but his weight causes the powerline to droop dangerously close to the ground. As the smaller birds complain about their cramped space, the big bird joins in with more squawking, unaware of their annoyance.
After a few seconds, one small bird furiously pecks the side of the larger bird, causing him to jolt awake and topple over, dangling upside down from his feet. Encouraged by their peers, the two birds in the middle join in by nipping at the big bird’s toes, causing them to gradually slip off the line. Despite this, the big bird remains unperturbed. However, one of the smaller birds finally realizes their proximity to the ground and raises an alarm. Unfortunately, their actions are too late and with one final snap of a toe, the line acts like a slingshot and launches all three birds up into a flurry of feathers.
