Force of Nature (2020)

Force of Nature (2020), an American action thriller directed by Michael Polish with a screenplay by Cory Miller, follows a group of individuals in Puerto Rico as they face the impending danger of an approaching hurricane. As an evacuation order is issued, police officers Cardillo and Jess Peña take to the streets to ensure everyone gets to safety. Meanwhile, John the Baptist, a thief, takes advantage of the chaos and steals a valuable painting. In another part of town, Griffin gets into a dispute over meat at the market and Cardillo and Peña are called to intervene. Amidst all this commotion, Ray, a retired police officer played by Mel Gibson, insists on staying in his apartment even though his daughter Troy has offered him a bed at the hospital due to concerns about his dialysis machine during power outages. Eventually, Cardillo agrees to take Troy to Ray’s building where they also encounter Paul Bergkamp (played by an old man), who also refuses evacuation.
Peña is currently staying with Ray. In an effort to persuade Bergkamp to evacuate, Cardillo witnesses John fatally shoot the building superintendent. The trio, consisting of himself, Troy, and Bergkamp, then make their way to Griffin’s apartment where the burglars are attempting to break into Bergkamp’s high-security system. While some of the thieves search for them on different floors, Cardillo, Troy, and Bergkamp reach Griffin’s door. However, Griffin initially refuses to let them in as he is occupied with feeding his caged pet. After some convincing from Cardillo, Griffin finally allows them inside. Due to the storm raging outside, the police radios are out of commission. Amidst all this chaos, Griffin’s tiger breaks free and attacks him. Using a bucket of meat as a distraction, Cardillo manages to drag Griffin away and lock the tiger back in its room while Troy tends to his injured leg.
