The film Frankenweenie (2012), directed by Tim Burton and written by John August, tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist and aspiring filmmaker who lives in the quiet town of New Holland, Pennsylvania with his parents and beloved dog Sparky. Despite his involvement in various school activities, Victor keeps to himself and doesn’t interact much with his classmates, including Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar ‘E’ Gore, Bob, Toshiaki, Nassor, and an eccentric girl known as ‘Weird Girl’. To help him be more social, Victor’s father suggests he try playing baseball. However, tragedy strikes when Sparky is tragically hit by a car while retrieving a home run ball during Victor’s first game.
Inspired by his new science teacher Mr. Rzykruski’s experiment with electricity on deceased frogs, Victor uses the same method to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life. While at school the next day, Sparky wanders off and causes some chaos in the neighborhood, including a chase with Weird Girl’s cat Mr. Whiskers. A fellow classmate, Edgar, discovers Sparky and blackmails Victor into sharing his reanimation technique. Together, they successfully revive a goldfish, but it mysteriously disappears due to an experimental mishap. Edgar brags about their achievement but is left puzzled when trying to prove it to another classmate, Nassor. He suspects that their revived creatures only have a brief lifespan.
