Get the Gringo (2012)
An American action film, Get the Gringo (2012), was both directed and co-written by Adrian Grunberg, as well as produced by and starring Mel Gibson. The movie begins with a getaway driver and his injured accomplice posing as clowns, attempting to escape from American Border Patrol towards the Mexican border. Despite crashing through the fence, the driver is caught by deceitful Mexican officers Vasquez and Romero. After discovering a large sum of money in the car, they falsely accuse him and imprison him in El Pueblito prison. The officers keep the cash for themselves and cremate his deceased partner. Being one of only a few Americans detained there, he earns the nickname ‘the Gringo’.
Within the walls of El Pueblito, a small community with its own set of rules, lies a surprising experience. The Gringo quickly learns the prison’s inner workings and takes advantage of lesser reputable businesses through petty thefts and robberies. One incident catches the attention of Kevin Balmore, a young resident living with his imprisoned mother and under the protection of the jail’s criminals. Inquisitive, the Gringo questions him about this special treatment, but Kevin remains tight-lipped. Later on, the Gringo intervenes in an assassination attempt on Javi, leader of the dominant crime family at El Pueblito, preventing a tragic outcome for both parties involved.
