Glass (2019), a superhero movie written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and produced by Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock, and Ashwin Rajan, tells the story of David Dunn / The Overseer and his son Joseph as they search for the Horde. The Horde, a group of people who all worship the superhuman personality known as the Beast, are holding four cheerleaders hostage in an abandoned factory. Dunn manages to rescue the cheerleaders but finds himself face to face with the Beast before being captured by Dr. Ellie Staple. At Raven Hill Memorial, Dunn and Kevin are held in separate rooms equipped with security measures that target their weaknesses: water for Dunn and light flashes for Kevin. According to Staple, she believes they have delusions of grandeur and do not possess actual superpowers, despite their past encounters with Elijah Price / Mr. Glass over a decade ago.
Staple, the evaluator, is determined to prove that superhumans do not exist. Mrs. Price, Elijah’s mother, Joseph Dunn, and Casey Cooke, a former captive of The Horde, all try and fail to change her mind. In their final assessment, Staple challenges the three men with non-supernatural explanations for their extraordinary abilities. David and Kevin’s personalities are left confused and distressed, while Elijah remains unresponsive. That night, he escapes his room and conducts research on The Overseer and The Horde. Elijah reveals to Kevin that he was actually pretending to be sedated and has been planning their escape from the institute with the help of The Beast. However, Staple catches footage of Elijah outside his room and attempts a lobotomy-like procedure on him. But it backfires when Elijah reveals he had secretly sabotaged the surgical laser beforehand. Alone with his caretaker, he kills him in a display of his undiminished capacity for violence.
