Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) is an American superhero film that tells the story of Shang-Chi, a character from Marvel Comics. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 25th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Many years ago, Xu Wenwu discovers the mystical ten rings which grant immortality and godly powers. He then forms the Ten Rings organization and uses its power to conquer kingdoms and overthrow governments throughout history. In 1996, Wenwu sets out to find Ta Lo, a village rumored to be home to mythical creatures. He journeys through a magical forest until he reaches the village entrance, where he meets Ying Li, a guardian who captures his heart. The two fall in love and have two children together – Shang-Chi and Xialing. Fueled by love, Wenwu decides to give up leadership of his organization and locks away the Ten Rings along with its power and immortality. However, tragedy strikes when Li is killed by Wenwu’s enemies, known as the Iron Gang when Shang-Chi is just seven years old. In response, Wenwu puts on the Ten Rings once again,

Brutal martial arts training is forced upon Shang-Chi by Wenwu, while Xialing is not included and instead trains in secrecy. When Shang-Chi turns 14, he is instructed by Wenwu to assassinate the leader of the Iron Gang. However, Shang-Chi flees and adopts the alias ‘Shaun’ in San Francisco. Presently, he works as a valet with his close friend Katy, who remains unaware of his past. During an attack on their bus by the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi’s pendant from Li is stolen. Fearing for his sister’s matching pendant from Li, Shang-Chi rushes to meet her. He confides in Katy about his history and she insists on aiding him. They locate Xialing at an underground fight club in Macau that she founded after fleeing from Wenwu as a child. The Ten Rings assault the club and Wenwu arrives to capture Shang-Chi, Katy, Xialing, and her pendant.
