Goldfinger (1964), the third film in the James Bond series, sees Sean Connery reprising his role as MI6 agent James Bond. Based on Ian Fleming’s novel of the same name published in 1959, the film follows Bond on a mission to Latin America where he destroys a drug laboratory and defeats an unnamed adversary by electrocuting them in a bathtub. From there, Bond travels to Miami Beach where his boss M has him observe bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger at a hotel. While spying on Goldfinger, Bond catches him cheating at gin rummy with the help of his employee Jill Masterson. To teach Goldfinger a lesson, Bond blackmails him into losing and spends the night with Jill. However, his plans are thwarted when he is knocked out by Goldfinger’s henchman Oddjob and wakes up to find Jill dead and covered in gold paint due to ‘skin suffocation’.
In London, M assigns Bond to uncover Goldfinger’s international gold smuggling methods. Q equips Bond with a modified Aston Martin DB5 and two tracking devices. During a game of golf at Goldfinger’s country club in Kent, Bond gambles a bar of recovered Nazi gold from the Bank of England. Despite Goldfinger’s attempt to cheat, Bond outwits him and wins the match. However, Goldfinger gives Bond a warning not to meddle in his affairs, while his powerful Korean acquaintance Oddjob demonstrates his strength. Following Goldfinger to Switzerland, Bond encounters Tilly, Jill’s sister, who tries to assassinate Goldfinger. Sneaking into Goldfinger’s refinery, Bond overhears him discussing with Chinese nuclear physicist Ling about incorporating gold into the bodywork of his Rolls-Royce Phantom III to smuggle out of England.
