Insurgent (2015) is an American dystopian science fiction action film directed by Robert Schwentke, based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Veronica Roth. It is the sequel to the 2014 film Divergent and the second installment in The Divergent Series. Five days after Jeanine and her mind-controlled Dauntless soldiers attacked the Abnegation faction, she has declared martial law and labeled all Divergents and their allies as enemies. In the debris of Abnegation, Max and Eric find a box with all five faction symbols on it. Jeanine believes it contains information from the city’s founders that could solve the Divergence problem. However, only Divergents can open it, so she orders them to be captured. Tris, her boyfriend Four, her brother Caleb (who is also Divergent) and troublemaker Peter hide in Amity’s compound led by Johanna. Meanwhile, Eric and his Dauntless crew arrive at Amity to test everyone for Divergence.
As the others escape and board a train headed into Factionless territory, Peter reveals the group’s location. Tobias Eaton, also known as Four, shares his true identity with the Factionless – he is the son of their leader Evelyn and still harbors resentment towards her for leaving him with his abusive father Marcus. At the Factionless hideout, Evelyn proposes that Dauntless and Factionless join forces against Erudite, but Four declines. The following morning, Tris, Four, and Caleb set off for Candor to meet up with fellow Dauntless members such as Tori and Christina. However, during their journey, Caleb becomes despondent and parts ways with the group. Upon reaching Candor’s headquarters, Tris and Four are taken into custody by leader Jack Kang who plans to hand them over to Jeanine. Despite this danger, Four insists on a trial using Candor’s truth serum.
