Based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name, Interview with the Vampire (1994) is an American gothic horror film directed by Neil Jordan. Set in late 20th century San Francisco, the movie follows reporter Daniel Molloy as he interviews Louis de Pointe du Lac, who claims to be a vampire. Initially skeptical, Molloy listens as Louis shares details of his life as a wealthy plantation owner in 1791 Louisiana. After experiencing the tragic loss of his wife and unborn child, Louis wanders the New Orleans waterfront one night and is attacked by Lestat de Lioncourt, a fellow vampire. With Lestat sensing his dissatisfaction with mortality, he offers to turn Louis into a vampire. Although initially accepting, Louis soon begins to regret his decision.
While Lestat enjoys hunting and killing humans, Louis resists his primal urge and instead sustains himself with animal blood – much to Lestat’s annoyance. In the midst of a devastating plague in New Orleans, Louis finds himself feeding on a young girl whose mother had succumbed to the illness. To convince Louis to stay by his side, Lestat turns the dying girl, Claudia, into a vampire. As they raise her together, Louis develops deep affection for Claude while Lestat indulges and instructs her as his protégé in the art of killing. As three decades pass, Claudia matures emotionally but remains physically unchanged and continues to be treated like a child by Lestat. When she realizes that she will never grow older or experience womanhood, she becomes furious with Lestat and urges Louis to leave him behind.
