Kick-Ass (2010) is a superhero film, directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Jane Goldman and Vaughn. It is based on the Marvel Comics’ comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Dave Lizewski, an average teenager from Staten Island, New York, is inspired by comic books to become a real-life superhero. He modifies a scuba diving suit and arms himself with batons for his first outing, which unfortunately ends in him getting stabbed and hit by a car. Following his recovery, Dave discovers that he now has an increased tolerance for pain and enhanced durability due to having some bones replaced with metal. During his absence from school, rumors spread that he is gay. This leads to his longtime crush, Katie Deauxma, trying to befriend him. Despite being unhappy with the misunderstanding, Dave sees this as an opportunity to get closer to Katie.

After returning to his crime-fighting ways and gaining notoriety for saving a man from a gang attack, Dave, also known as ‘Kick-Ass’, sets up a Myspace account for anyone seeking his assistance. When Katie reaches out to him for help with a drug dealer named Rasul who has been harassing her, Kick-Ass confronts Rasul at his place. Despite being quickly overwhelmed by Rasul’s thugs, Kick-Ass is saved by two fellow vigilantes – Hit-Girl and her father, Big Daddy – who effortlessly defeat the thugs and take their money. Feeling out of his depth, Dave initially decides to quit crime-fighting. However, Hit-Girl and Big Daddy pay him a visit and offer words of encouragement. It is revealed that Big Daddy’s true identity is Damon Macready – once an honest cop who was framed by Mafia boss Frank D’Amico and subsequently imprisoned.
