Lethal Weapon 3 (1992), an action flick directed by Richard Donner and written by Jeffrey Boam and Robert Mark Kamen, follows the last days of Sergeant Roger Murtaugh’s career at the L.A.P.D. Alongside his partner Martin Riggs, they are reassigned to street patrol after a failed attempt to defuse a bomb in an office building. While on duty, they witness the theft of an armored car and with the help of driver Delores, manage to stop the crime. Although one of the thieves escapes, the other is apprehended. It is later discovered that he is connected to Jack Travis, a former LAPD lieutenant running an illegal arms trade in Los Angeles. Worried about armor-piercing bullets being used, Riggs and Murtaugh are reinstated and partnered with Sergeant Lorna Cole from internal affairs in order to take down Travis.
Travis is currently in discussions with mobster Tyrone regarding his weapons transaction. The thief who fled from an armored car robbery is brought to Travis, who then proceeds to eliminate him in front of Tyrone for drawing unwanted attention from the police. Afterwards, using his previous law enforcement credentials, Travis gains access to the interrogation room and eliminates the suspect in custody before he can be questioned. Unbeknownst to Travis, the station has recently installed closed-circuit cameras which enable Cole to confirm his identity. While reviewing the footage together, their mutual friend Leo Getz shows up unexpectedly. Leo has been assisting Murtaugh with selling his house and immediately recognizes Travis from their past business dealings and shared love of ice hockey. Despite narrowly missing capturing Travis at a hockey game, Murtaugh, Riggs, and Getz are still able to wound him.
