Luca (2021)
The year is 2021 and Disney has released a new animated movie called Luca (2021). This heartwarming coming-of-age fantasy was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The story follows a young sea monster named Luca Paguro who resides in the coastal town of Portorosso. Despite his parents’ fears that humans may harm him, Luca enjoys herding goatfish near the surface. One day, he meets another sea monster child named Alberto Scorfano, who lives above water without his father around. Alberto introduces Luca to the world above the ocean’s surface, where they discover that sea monsters can transform into humans when dry but revert back when wet. The duo becomes fast friends and bond over their shared love for Vespa scooters, building one together to explore the land. However, Luca’s parents find out about their adventures and plan to separate him from the human world by sending him to live with his uncle in the deep sea. In defiance, Luca and Alberto run away to Portorosso in search of a real Vespa to travel and discover what lies beyond their home under the sea.
The boys encounter trouble when they cross paths with Ercole Visconti, the infamous bully and reigning champion of the Portorosso Cup Triathlon. He attempts to push Luca into a nearby fountain but luckily, Giulia Marcovaldo comes to their aid. With the goal of earning enough money to buy a Vespa, the trio joins forces and forms a team for the triathlon. The competition involves swimming, pasta-eating, and biking. Since Luca and Alberto cannot swim without revealing their identities, they opt to tackle the biking and pasta-eating portions of the race while Giulia handles the swimming race. Upon discovering this strategy, Ercole declares his determination to defeat them and maintain his unbeaten record.
