Despite their efforts, the gangsters are eliminated by another group of masked men led by a luchador-masked figure who tragically kills Sartana in the process. Machete is then apprehended and sentenced to death by hanging at the hands of corrupt Sheriff Doakes and Deputy Clebourne. However, much to their surprise, Machete miraculously survives the hanging and receives an unexpected call from US President Rathcock. As it turns out, Rathcock has an intriguing offer for Machete – if he can help confirm intel on Marcos Mendez, a dangerous psychopath planning to launch a nuclear missile at Washington, Rathcock will wipe his criminal record and grant him citizenship.
If the US government fails to stop the cartels and corrupt officials in Mexico, Machete heads to San Antonio to meet handler and beauty queen Blanca Vasquez. He then travels to Acapulco to find Cereza, who can lead him to Mendez. However, he is confronted by Desdemona, a brothel owner who happens to be Cereza’s mother. As Mendez’s beloved virgin, Cereza warns Machete about his split personality before they make their way to his headquarters. During their journey, Zaror, Mendez’s enforcer, receives a call from his boss and fatally shoots Cereza. To Machete’s horror, he learns that Mendez has connected the missile’s launch device to his own heart as a safety measure. In other words, if he dies, the missile will be launched. In a race against time, Machete eliminates Zaror and decides to take Mendez with him back to the US in search of a solution for disarming the weapon.
