Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) is an Australian post-apocalyptic dystopian action film directed by George Miller. Following a global war that resulted in oil shortages and ecocide, society crumbled and gave way to chaos. Now, Max Rockatansky, a former policeman haunted by the loss of his family, navigates the desert of Australia in his supercharged black V-8 Pursuit Special with his faithful Australian Cattle Dog. He cleverly outmaneuvers a group of marauders led by the deranged biker Wez using his driving skills and a sawed-off shotgun. In need of fuel, he takes some from the wrecked vehicles of one of his attackers and examines a destroyed semi-trailer and prime mover. After encountering an apparently abandoned gyrocopter, Max is ambushed by its pilot. However, with his dog’s help, he overpowers the man and spares his life in exchange for being shown to a functional oil refinery that the pilot has found.
During the daily attack on the facility by a motley motorised gang, Max witnesses several cars being chased down by marauders. He saves Nathan, the only survivor from one of the cars, and makes a deal with him to return him to the compound in exchange for fuel. Unfortunately, Nathan dies shortly after they arrive and Pappagallo, the leader of the settlers, declares that their deal is now void. As punishment for his failed attempt at obtaining fuel, the settlers threaten to take Max’s car and banish him from their compound. But just as they are about to carry out their punishment, the marauders arrive again to negotiate. A feral child from the refinery compound takes matters into their own hands and kills Wez’s partner with a metal boomerang. Wez seeks revenge, but ‘Lord Humungus’, leader of the marauders, offers an ultimatum: give up their fuel supply in exchange for sparing their lives.
