At the same time, Imperator Furiosa, one of Joe’s lieutenants, is sent on a mission to trade with two of Joe’s allies using the heavily protected ‘War Rig’. However, when Joe discovers that his five wives have escaped in the Rig, he mobilizes his forces from Gas Town and the Bullet Farm to pursue them. Nux joins the chase with Max strapped to his car and they engage in a high-speed battle. As Furiosa drives into a sand storm to escape their pursuers, Nux makes an attempt to sacrifice himself by blowing up the Rig.
Max frees himself and restrains Nux, while Furiosa destroys their vehicle. Afterwards, Max finds her fixing the Rig with Joe’s wives – Toast, Capable, the Dag, Cheedo, and Angharad who is heavily pregnant with Joe’s child. Despite trying to steal the Rig, Max doesn’t know the code to bypass the kill switches. Reluctantly, he joins forces with Furiosa and the wives. As they depart, Nux sneaks onto the Rig and attempts to kill Furiosa. However, he is defeated and expelled from the group as Joe’s army rescues him on their way by. Continuing through a canyon controlled by a biker gang, Furiosa had arranged to exchange fuel for safe passage but when they spot an approaching army, the gang turns on them forcing them to flee.
