Magnum Force (1973) is an American neo-noir action thriller and the second film to feature the iconic Clint Eastwood as renegade cop Harry Callahan. The year prior, mobster Carmine Ricca had been acquitted of a mass murder charge due to a legal loophole. As he drives away from court in his limousine, the SFPD pulls him over. However, instead of issuing a ticket, the motorcycle cop calmly guns down everyone in the car. Harry and his new partner, Early Smith, visit the crime scene despite being assigned to a stakeout. Their superior, Lieutenant Neil Briggs, seems eager to keep Harry away from the investigation. During his time at the airport, Callahan assists in foiling a hijacking attempt by two men.
Later on, he crosses paths with rookies Phil Sweet, John Davis, Alan ‘Red’ Astrachan, and Mike Grimes at the police firing range. Sweet stands out as an exceptional shooter due to his experience as a former United States Army Ranger and Vietnam veteran. His comrades possess similar skills. In another incident, a motorcycle cop wreaks havoc at a pool party without leaving any trace. Callahan and Early successfully take down criminals at a drugstore, but not before a pimp kills one of his prostitutes for withholding money from him. The following day, the pimp is killed by a patrolman. Upon further investigation, Callahan realizes that the perpetrator is none other than a fellow officer. He suspects it to be his old friend Charlie McCoy who has hit rock bottom after separating from his wife, Carol.
