Taking place after the events of Megamind, the short follows Megamind’s first day as Defender of Metro City. To prepare for their new duty, Megamind and Minion sell off their old gadgets from their evil lair, with the exception of the Death Ray which Megamind reluctantly kept from his battle with Metro Man. A young boy named Damien buys the De-Gun, but accidentally uses it on his mother while it is in dehydration mode. After all items are sold, Megamind reveals a suit he created that mimics Metro Man’s powers, which he will use to protect Metro City.
While exploring, Minion comes across an unsold button that appears harmless. Despite not remembering its purpose, Megamind impulsively presses it and unleashes an AI version of his former evil self. This entity then takes control of a giant robot known as the Mega-Megamind – a diabolical scheme that had never been put into action before. The robot mistakenly identifies Megamind as Metro Man and begins attacking him. Using his newfound abilities, Megamind engages in a fierce battle with the Mega-Megamind but ultimately falls short. Seeking refuge in their Invisible Car, Megamind decides they must take up permanent residence there, safeguarding themselves from the relentless pursuit of the hero-seeking machine he inadvertently created.
