Moonraker (1979) is a spy-fi film, the eleventh in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It features Roger Moore as MI6 agent James Bond and was directed by Lewis Gilbert. Based on a screenplay manuscript originally devised by author Ian Fleming in 1954, the story follows Bond as he investigates the hijacking of a Drax Industries Moonraker Space Shuttle. M, head of MI6, assigns Bond to the case after the shuttle’s carrier aircraft is destroyed with no trace of the shuttle itself. During his journey, Bond is attacked and forced out of an airplane by mercenary assassin Jaws, but manages to survive thanks to a stolen parachute. Upon arriving at Drax Industries in California, Bond meets Hugo Drax, owner of the company, and his henchman Chang.
During his mission, Bond encounters Dr. Holly Goodhead, an astronaut, and narrowly escapes death in a centrifuge chamber. He receives assistance from Corinne Dufour, Drax’s personal pilot, in obtaining blueprints for a glass vial made in Venice. Unfortunately, when Drax discovers Dufour’s involvement, he orders his dogs to kill her. In Venice, Bond comes across Goodhead who is covertly investigating a door near the glass factory. She is then pursued by Drax’s henchmen as Bond navigates through the canals. Upon returning to the factory under the cover of darkness, Bond discovers a hidden biological laboratory where it is revealed that the glass vials contain a deadly nerve gas that only affects humans. However, during his investigation, Bond is attacked by Chang but ultimately defeats him by throwing him through the stained glass clockface of Saint Mark’s clocktower.
