Out of the Dark (2014)
Out of the Dark (2014) is a supernatural thriller film primarily in English. In 1992, Dr. Andres Contreras Sr. prepares to leave a finca in Santa Clara, Colombia, attempting to burn and hide some files in the dumbwaiter when he hears strange noises around the house. He is then pursued by what appears to be a group of children on the second floor and tragically falls to his death after being pushed from the balcony. Two decades later, Sarah and Paul Harriman relocate from the UK with their daughter, Hannah, to Santa Clara. Sarah has accepted a managerial position at a paper mill owned by her father, Jordan. They settle into the company-owned finca where they all immediately take a liking to it, except for Hannah who is unsettled by the open dumbwaiter in her room.
Shortly after their arrival, Sarah and Paul attend a dinner on the opening night of the Los Niños Santos festival, leaving Hannah in the care of her nanny, Catalina. Mysterious happenings occur at the finca, culminating with a sleeping Hannah being startled by the sudden opening of the dumbwaiter door. Despite it being her favorite stuffed toy, Hannah becomes trapped in the dumbwaiter while trying to retrieve it. Upon returning home, Sarah and Paul find an unwell Hannah with a developing rash. Uncomfortably, Catalina suggests that there may have been a ghost in the house and is subsequently dismissed by Paul. Over the next day, Hannah’s condition worsens and they make the decision to bring her back to England for proper medical treatment.
