Quantum of Solace (2008) is the twenty-second installment in the iconic James Bond series created by Eon Productions. Bond transports Mr. White, a detainee, from Lake Garda to Siena, Italy in his vehicle. While evading pursuers, Bond successfully delivers White to M, who questions him about the elusive organisation Quantum. When White reveals that their agents are ubiquitous, one of M’s protectors named Craig Mitchell shoots a guard and turns on her. In an attempt to apprehend Mitchell, Bond ends his life as White manages to escape. Further investigation of Mitchell’s residence in London leads Bond and M to learn about his connection with a man named Edmund Slate in Haiti. It turns out that Slate is an assassin hired by environmentalist entrepreneur Dominic Greene to eliminate Camille Montes at the request of her lover. Greene has been assisting exiled Bolivian General Medrano, who is responsible for killing Camille’s family, in overthrowing the government and seizing power over a desolate terrain as compensation.
After preventing Camille’s attempt to assassinate Medrano, Bond tails Greene to a performance of Tosca in Bregenz, Austria. In the meantime, Gregg Beam, head of the CIA’s South American division, and agent Felix Leiter negotiate a deal with Greene for access to alleged Bolivian oil reserves. The CIA suspects that this is the motivation behind Greene’s interest in the land. At the opera house, Bond sneaks into Quantum’s meeting and identifies its executive board members, resulting in a shootout. One of Quantum’s members, Guy Haines – who advises the British Prime Minister – has a Special Branch bodyguard who refuses to cooperate with Bond and ends up being thrown off a building by him. As he lands on Greene’s car, one of his men shoots and kills him.
