The American crime drama TV series Ray Donovan (2013–2020), created by Ann Biderman, debuted on Showtime on June 30, 2013. The show follows Liev Schreiber as the lead character, who works as a ‘fixer’ for the prestigious law firm Goldman & Drexler in Los Angeles, representing wealthy and famous clients. However, his life is thrown into turmoil when his father Mickey Donovan is unexpectedly released from prison. After seven seasons, Showtime announced the cancellation of the series on February 4, 2020. However, a feature-length film to wrap up the story was later announced on February 24, 2021 and is set to premiere in 2022. In total, Ray Donovan aired 82 episodes over seven seasons between June 30, 2013 and January 19, 2020.
Ray Donovan, a South Boston native now living in Calabasas, California, is known for solving problems for a prominent Los Angeles law firm. While dealing with personal issues involving his wife, daughter, and son, Ray’s father Mickey is unexpectedly released from prison on parole. Instead of reuniting with his family, however, Mickey decides to confront the priest who abused Ray’s brother. Meanwhile, one of Ray’s clients wakes up to discover a deceased woman next to him in bed. Despite having not engaged in sexual activity or causing her death (which was determined to be from a drug overdose), this same morning another client, actor Tommy Wheeler who has a film coming out soon, contacts Ray about being blackmailed with a compromising video. It dawns on Ray that he can address both matters at once.
