Resident Evil (2002)

Resident Evil (2002) is a thrilling action horror film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The story takes place in Raccoon City, where the sinister Umbrella Corporation owns a genetic research facility known as the Hive. When a thief steals the powerful T-virus and unleashes it inside the facility, the Hive’s AI system, called the Red Queen, responds by sealing off the building and executing all its inhabitants. Alice wakes up with no memory of who she is or how she got there, finding herself in an empty mansion. She quickly gets dressed and explores the mansion, but her search is abruptly interrupted when she is attacked by an unknown individual. As an elite team of commandos led by James Shade bursts into the mansion, Alice’s attacker is revealed to be Matt Addison, a supposed newcomer to the Raccoon Police Department. With no other options, Alice and Matt are ordered to go down to the Hive with the team, where they discover another missing person named Spence who has also lost his memory.

According to the commandos, only Matt is not employed by Umbrella Corporation. Additionally, Alice and Spence were pretending to be a married couple while assigned as guards for the secret entrance under the mansion where they resided. During their encounter in the Red Queen’s chamber, a laser defense system eliminates Shade and three other commandos. Despite the Red Queen’s pleas for them to leave, Kaplan overrides it, causing a power outage and unlocking all doors in the Hive. This results in the zombified staff and containment units housing Lickers, which were created using the T-virus, being released. The group is then attacked by these creatures, resulting in J.D.’s death. Rain, Kaplan, and Spence retreat while Alice becomes separated from Matt as she starts to remember her past experiences.
