Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) is an action horror film directed by Alexander Witt and written by Paul W. S. Anderson. In the previous installment, Alice (a former security operative) and Matt Addison (an environmental activist) joined forces to escape from the Hive – an underground genetic research facility responsible for a zombie outbreak. Their mission was to expose the illegal experiments being conducted by pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation. However, their efforts were thwarted as they were both captured and separated by Umbrella. Meanwhile, a team sent to investigate the Hive ends up getting overrun by zombies, leading to a quick spread of the virus in nearby Raccoon City. In response, Umbrella quarantines the city and evacuates key personnel. During this chaotic evacuation, Angela Ashford – daughter of Umbrella researcher Dr. Charles Ashford – goes missing after her security car collides with another vehicle.
As Jill Valentine, a former member of the Raccoon City Police Department’s STARS unit, heads back to her old precinct to urge her colleagues to evacuate, Alice awakens in an empty hospital and searches the city for resources. Meanwhile, Umbrella Corporation is using the only bridge out of the area to evacuate civilians. At the same time, Valentine reunites with her ex-partner Sgt. Payton Wells at the bridge. However, their reunion is cut short when a civilian turns into a zombie and bites Wells, infecting him. With the virus reaching the bridge, Major Timothy Cain – leader of Umbrella’s forces in Raccoon City – seals off the exit and orders everyone to return to the city. As they are left behind by their employer following a failed rescue mission, Umbrella soldiers Carlos Olivera and Nicholai Ginovaef team up with surviving STARS members to defend against relentless zombie attacks.
