In the action horror film Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, Alice and her fellow survivors aboard the Umbrella Corporation freighter Arcadia face an attack from a fleet of Umbrella gunships, led by Alice’s brainwashed former ally, Jill Valentine. In the chaos, Alice is captured while an Alice clone wakes up in the suburbs with her husband Todd and deaf daughter Becky. The peaceful neighborhood is soon revealed to be Raccoon City during the initial zombie outbreak. As they try to escape in a truck driven by Rain Ocampo, who is later knocked unconscious, Alice hides Becky in another house but is tragically killed by her zombified husband. Meanwhile, the real Alice awakens in an underwater facility where she is interrogated by Jill. Taking advantage of a power failure, Alice escapes and equips herself before finding herself in a simulation of Tokyo’s Shibuya Square.

As she fights against the undead, she makes her way into a control room filled with lifeless employees of the Umbrella corporation. In there, she comes face to face with Ada Wong, one of Albert Wesker’s top operatives. On a screen, Wesker reveals that they no longer serve Umbrella and that he was behind the staged power outage. The Red Queen, Alice’s arch-nemesis, has been reactivated after the contamination of the Hive and now controls Umbrella. This underwater facility was once a Soviet naval outpost in Kamchatka, Russia, but was repurposed by Umbrella for their own nefarious plans involving clones and simulated T-virus outbreaks. Working together, Ada and Alice plan to meet up with a rescue team organized by Wesker which includes Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton, and Luther West.
