Rings (2005) is an American supernatural horror short film that serves as both a sequel to The Ring and a prelude to the opening sequence of The Ring Two. It was initially included as an extra disc accompanying the re-release of The Ring on DVD. Following the events of The Ring, Samara Morgan’s infamous videotape has spread like wildfire, with each person who views it creating copies and passing them on. This has resulted in the formation of a subculture centered around the tape, where individuals test their bravery by waiting until the last possible moment before showing it to someone else. These groups are known as ‘rings’.
The focus of the film centers on Jake Pierce, the newest member of a mysterious ring. Recently, Tim has been recruited as well and will watch the tape once Jake gives in. What unfolds is both astonishing and eerie when Jake starts to see visions of Samara, similar to those experienced by Rachel Keller. On the sixth day, Jake finally succumbs but Tim refuses to watch. It is later revealed that Vanessa, another member, influenced Tim’s decision as she wants to witness what happens on day seven. As desperation sets in, Jake attempts to play the video on display models at an electronics store but is caught and promptly expelled.
