Spectre (2015) is the latest James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. Tasked with a mission by his former boss, M, MI6 agent James Bond foils a bombing attempt at a Day of the Dead festival in Mexico City. After recovering a telltale octopus ring from the deceased attacker, Marco Sciarra, Bond uncovers his involvement with an enigmatic organization. However, upon returning to London, the new M – Gareth Mallory – reprimands Bond for acting without authorization. Meanwhile, M finds himself embroiled in a power struggle with Max Denbigh (dubbed ‘C’ by Bond), Director-General of the newly formed Joint Intelligence Service that combines MI5 and MI6. C seeks to persuade Britain to join a global surveillance program called ‘Nine Eyes’ and disband the ’00’ section of MI6. Despite being on a mission assigned by his previous boss to eliminate Sciarra and expose his employers, Bond ultimately goes rogue from MI6, aided covertly by Eve Moneypenny and Q.

Based on the previous instructions from M, Bond attends Sciarra’s funeral in Rome and saves his widow Lucia from hitmen. Lucia reveals Sciarra’s involvement with a terrorist group headed by Franz Oberhauser, thought to be deceased for two decades. With Sciarra’s ring as a disguise, Bond sneaks into a gathering where Oberhauser sets his sights on killing the ‘Pale King’. However, Oberhauser recognizes Bond and he flees through the city in a modified Aston Martin DB10, chased by top assassin Hinx. Through Moneypenny’s intel, it is discovered that the Pale King is actually Mr. White, a former member of Quantum – the organization under which this group operates. In pursuit of answers, Bond follows White to Altaussee, where it becomes evident that he is suffering from thallium poisoning.
