Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) is an animated superhero film featuring Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The story follows Miles, a New York City teenager struggling to meet his father’s expectations as a police officer who sees Spider-Man as a troublemaker. To lift Miles’ spirits, his uncle Aaron takes him to an abandoned subway station where he is bitten by a radioactive spider and gains powers similar to Spider-Man’s. After discovering a collider built by the villainous Kingpin, who hopes to access parallel universes to bring back his family, Spider-Man fights against Kingpin’s minions while trying to disable the collider. During the chaos, Green Goblin forces Spider-Man into the collider, creating an explosion that kills Goblin and injures Spider-Man. Before dying, Spider-Man gives Miles a device designed to shut down the collider and warns him of its destructive potential. As Miles watches in shock as Kingpin kills Spider-Man, he runs away with the USB drive in hand.
As the city mourns Spider-Man’s passing, Miles strives to uphold his legacy and carry on as the new Spider-Man. In his efforts, however, he accidentally damages the drive. A visit to Spider-Man’s burial site leads him to encounter Peter B. Parker, a weary older version of the hero from a parallel world. Together, they break into Kingpin’s research facility to procure data for a replacement flash drive. Their mission is jeopardized by the interference of crazed scientist Olivia Octavius, who reveals that Peter will succumb to cellular decay if he remains in their dimension. Just when all seems lost, they are rescued by Gwen Stacy, another Spider-person from an alternate universe. Seeking refuge with May Parker, Spider-Man’s aunt, they discover that she is sheltering additional visitors who were displaced by the collider explosion – namely, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham – all facing a similar fate as Peter due to their deteriorating conditions. Though Miles offers to aid them in returning home, they express doubt about his qualifications for such a task.
