The Addams Family (2019)

An animated supernatural black comedy film, The Addams Family (2019), is based on characters from the cartoon created by Charles Addams. As a result of rejecting anything macabre in nature, an angry mob of villagers interrupts the midnight wedding ceremony of Gomez Addams and Morticia Frump. In the midst of chaos, Grandmama buys Uncle Fester time to evacuate them, along with Gomez and Morticia’s loyal hand servant, Thing. Deciding they’ve had enough of the outside world, Gomez and Morticia relocate to New Jersey – a place they deem undesired by most. There, they stumble upon an abandoned asylum on a hill that seems ‘perfect’ for them. Upon arrival at their new home, they unintentionally hit an escaped mental patient named Lurch with their car while Thing was driving. They quickly recruit him as their butler without hesitation. Fast forward 13 years later and the Addams family continues to live their solitary lives in gloomy isolation. To pass down traditions within their family, Gomez prepares his son Pugsley for his upcoming “Sabre Mazurka”, which is a rite of passage that all members of the Addams family must partake in.

Morticia faces the challenge of preventing their daughter, Wednesday, from being drawn to the outside world after a surprise decoration of balloons and confetti appears on their property. In another part of town, reality TV host Margaux Needler spots the Addams family’s unique home and becomes determined to remove it in order to make her planned community, ‘Assimilation’, a hit for her show’s season finale. Despite the Addams’ refusal to conform, Margaux begins spreading rumors about them on social media, labeling them as outcasts. Meanwhile, Wednesday befriends Margaux’s overlooked daughter Parker and convinces Morticia to allow her to attend junior high school. Pugsley struggles with the complexities and stress of his Mazurka dance, despite receiving guidance from Gomez and Uncle Fester. As preparations for the event continue, Grandmama makes an appearance at the house.
