The Batman (2022)
An American superhero film, The Batman (2022), is based on the DC Comics character of the same name. On Halloween night, Gotham City’s mayor, Don Mitchell Jr., is found dead and a man claiming to be the Riddler takes responsibility. Bruce Wayne, a wealthy recluse who has been operating as Batman for two years now, joins forces with the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) to investigate. During their investigation, Lieutenant James Gordon uncovers a message from the Riddler intended for Batman. The villain strikes again by killing Commissioner Pete Savage and leaving another message for Batman. As they dig deeper into the case, Batman and Gordon discover incriminating evidence against Mitchell involving a woman named Annika Koslov at the Iceberg Lounge – a nightclub owned by Carmine Falcone’s right-hand man, the Penguin. Despite his denial of any involvement, Batman notices that Selina Kyle – Annika’s friend and roommate – works as a waitress at the club. When Annika goes missing, Batman sends Selina back to the Iceberg Lounge for answers and uncovers that not only was Savage on Falcone’s payroll but so is district attorney Gil Colson.
The Riddler kidnaps Colson and attaches a timed collar bomb to his neck, forcing him to disrupt Mitchell’s funeral. Upon Batman’s arrival, the Riddler contacts him through Colson’s phone and demands that he answer three riddles or the bomb will detonate. Despite Colson’s refusal to reveal the name of a GCPD informant responsible for taking down mob boss Salvatore Maroni, he perishes. Batman and Gordon piece together clues leading them to suspect the Penguin as the informant, and they tail him to a drug deal. There, they uncover evidence that Maroni’s operation has been taken over by Falcone with help from corrupt GCPD officers. Selina unintentionally stumbles upon Annika’s dead body in a car trunk while trying to steal money, ultimately exposing the corrupt officers involved. A high-speed chase ends with the capture of the Penguin, but it is revealed that he is not the informant. Following leads left by the Riddler, Batman and Gordon end up at an orphanage funded by Bruce’s late parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne.
