The Canyon (2009)
The thriller film, The Canyon (2009), written by Steve Allrich and directed by Richard Harrah, follows the tale of newlyweds Nick and Lori. After eloping, the couple embarks on a mule ride into the canyon with their guide, Henry. As they descend further into the canyon, the trio comes across old petroglyphs that are a half day’s ride away. Despite Nick’s initial reluctance, he persuades Lori to join them on the journey. Tragically, during the trip, Henry is attacked twice by rattlesnakes and their mules run off in fear. Left stranded, the three make camp for the night and begin their trek back to safety the next day. However, as they continue on without their guide, Henry falls victim to the venom and passes away. Nick and Lori are left to mourn their loss and fend for themselves as they try to find a way out of the treacherous terrain.
At the end of their day-long hike, the couple finally arrive at a dead end where they discover ancient petroglyphs. Upon realizing they had mistakenly gone in the wrong direction all day, they decide to climb up the rock face in hopes of getting a cell phone signal. Despite Lori successfully reaching out to emergency services, the call is cut short due to poor reception. As Nick attempts to navigate through a crevice, he slips and falls along with Lori, resulting in broken phones and Nick’s leg becoming trapped at the base of the rock face. After waiting for help for an entire day, their rescue remains uncertain.
